« Duck & Cover », the 1st opus by RE had already created a huge surprise in 2006 altogether for abstract hip hop adepts and for heavy indus electro fans. Since, the Swiss three-piece have released an explosive vinyl EP, DTTR featuring Blu Rum 13 (Oneself), which spread at the speed of light among the DJ sphere and was played on multiple stages throughout Europe, immersing the audience in their very personal universe cleverly mixing old school Sci-Fi, scratches, human beat box, underlined by the hypnotic and insistent sequences which have always been their trademark.
«High Complex Machinery» their 2nd album is clearly a logical follower. Relentlessly fiddling throughout an inspiring material as vast as eclectic (experimental electro, old school hip hop, old movies soundtracks…), RE keep on surprising their audience by taking out here and there the samples and mechanisms which are the ground for their music. « HCM » the opening track, « Instant Art » or « Six Clicks » are perfect examples of the fact : a enticing and martial rhythm that still has room for the superbly evanescent melodies sung by feminine voices, namely Jasmine Plusss already met on Duck & Cover. From then on the album really installs a tension which is not to be released until the end of the last track. As usual, Reverse Engineering also invited prestigious guests such as M. Sayyid (Antipop Consortium / Airborn Audio) whose explosive interventions literally turns three tracks into retro-futuristic hits. Faithful MC, Blu Rum 13 - part of DJ Vadim's project « Oneself », is also there to bring a bit of humanity with his languorous flow to this lunar album. Also note the percussive participation of young Croatian female MC Lal Lya who shows breathtaking charisma on « Romeo Echo », marvellously uniting her nervous flow to the metallic and powerful beats of RE.
« High Complex Machinery » confirms the big comeback of the mad professors forming Reverse Engineering who, with these 12 tracks, once again breathtakingly combine their wide singularity among international hip hop.
